Larval Aerial Treatment in Western Placer June 15, 16

Planned Aerial Treatment

What: Larval mosquito treatment
Where: Western Placer County agricultural areas
When: June 15 and 16, 2020

The Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District conducts two types of aerial treatments during mosquito season:

  1. Proactive treatments which target mosquito larvae in flood irrigated agricultural fields and wetlands.
  2. Reactive treatments which target adult mosquitoes when West Nile virus risk is high.

The agricultural areas, rice fields and marshes, of western Placer County are scheduled for a proactive aerial treatment of larval mosquito populations. Larval treatments involve an EPA-registered biorational mosquito larvicide applied by a low-flying aircraft in an effort to prevent the emergence of adult mosquitoes and reduce the risk of mosquito-transmitted diseases. Treatments will occur during the daylight hours, most commonly in the early morning through the early afternoon on both June 15 and 16, 2020.

Since several factors, including weather conditions, affect treatment activities, the District encourages Placer residents to check the District website for any changes to the treatment schedule and accompanying maps of the planned treatment areas.
