Aerial Adulticide Treatment in Western Placer Tonight, July 29 7:30-11 p.m.

Planned Aerial Adulticide Treatment

What: Adult mosquito treatment
Where: Western Placer County
When: Tonight, July 29, 7:30 – 11 p.m.

Areas of western Placer are scheduled for an aerial adulticide treatment tonight due to high adult mosquito counts and positive West Nile virus mosquitoes. An EPA-registered mosquito adulticide will be applied in an ultra-low volume fog by aircraft to target adult mosquitoes tonight, July 29, 2020, between 7:30 and 11 p.m.

  • Westpark neighborhood of Roseville west of Fiddyment Road and the agricultural areas to the west to Country Acres Road
  • Both sides of S Brewer Road north of E Catlett Road
  • North of W Wise Road, west of N Dowd Road and south of Dalby Road
  • The agricultural area between W Wise Road and Nicolaus Road on both sides of Brewer Road

Adult mosquito control treatments are made to prevent the transmission of West Nile virus to people. A number of factors including the aircraft, weather conditions and adult mosquito and disease surveillance information must be considered for a safe and effective application. Due to these factors, the District encourages Placer County residents to check the District website for any changes to the planned treatment schedule and accompanying treatment area maps.

Wind speed and direction is especially important during adult mosquito applications. The District only uses aerial mosquito control contractors who use specialized systems to allow the pilot to measure the wind and fly in a way to deliver the material into the target area. This means that sometimes the aircraft will need to fly upwind of the target area to compensate for the wind.
